A uniform change for Major League Baseball has sparked a fervent online discourse among fans and others who have noticed that the pants don't leave very much to the imagination … to put it mildly.

The new pants, manufactured by Fanatics, seem to be essentially "see-through," exposing the outline of players' underwear. The pants are also very tight.

This was a perfect storm for memes and commentary online. Many took the chance to joke about how the Fanatics pants, which accentuate particular parts of baseball players' bodies, might change the viewing experience of the games.

A number of fans also found the new pants ridiculous and protested against the choice to clothe players in them.

According to reporting from ESPN, many of the players, including the chief of the players' union, agree with the sentiment. The pants have reportedly been "added to the list" of grievances players have about the league.

The sheer slacks were originally designed to be lightweight and more breathable, using a high-tech textile, but it seems as if they have gotten a little too breathable for the tastes of some.

This wouldn't be the first time the MLB makes a move that confuses audiences, upsets players and delights chaotic meme-makers on the internet.

The League's cardboard cut-out fans during the pandemic also created a stir online, and issues surrounding labor negotiations with players have dogged the sport in recent years.

Like many organizations, the MLB has sometimes been criticized for its lack of transparency. But at least in this one area, the League is, according to many, far too transparent.
