It's been a relatively difficult past month for Super Smash Brothers champion MKLeo. After two years in which he almost never finished less than second in a major tournament, Leo came in 4th and 3rd place at the previous two Smash Ultimate majors, Summit and Glitch.

This led the typically hyperbolic Smash community to wonder what was "wrong" with Leo. Had players finally figured out the counterplay to his beloved main, Byleth? Should he pick up a new character? Or perhaps return to his old one, Joker?

Yesterday, he appeared poised to answer those questions when he teased, "Big announcement coming…" With fans ready to see how Leo would shape the future of Smash, he instead appeared to deliver this:

mkleo nft hack

As it turned out, MKLeo was not using his Twitter account to shill NFTs. In reality, he was hacked by a group of scammers posing as the Possessed NFT group, hijacking his account to direct people to mint NFTs from the actual Possessed NFT project.

It seems like very few people, if anyone, in the community took the bait. As arguably the most widely known professional Smash Ultimate player right now, Leo has never come across as a "crypto guy" on his Twitter account or his Twitch and YouTube channels. Mostly, he just talks about the game and his love of K-Pop group Red Velvet. His coach L4ST also quickly got the word out that his account was compromised.

With the scam nearly instantly blown up, the Smash community took to good-naturedly memeing on the situation.

Earlier today, Leo got his account back and set the record straight.
