You'd be forgiven if you forgot Netflix was working on a Cuphead animated series. The collaboration was announced in mid-2019, giving fans of the indie game darling hope and excitement for 2020 (though perhaps people got understandably distracted from their excitement for The Cuphead Show in the years since).
However, earlier today we finally got an update on the series with its first trailer and an imminent release date set for February 18th.
The trailer showcases some madcap antics that seem generally lifted from the loose plot of the game as Cuphead and his brother Mugman go to a carnival run by the devil. Though the trailer doesn't make explicit that they agree to collect souls for the devil in exchange for their own, it certainly seems as though the duo gets into a whole mess of trouble.
The game's noodle-style animation, referencing Max Fleischer cartoons, remains intact in the trailer, albeit with some modern punch-ups and humor. The trailer also seems to indicate the show will at least retain some of the wildly violent comedic antics typical of the genre. For example, at one point, Cuphead gets his soul sucked out by a carnival game, which Mugman retrieves and thrusts back into a comatose Cuphead.
The trailer got people hyped anew for The Cuphead Show, and social media began buzzing almost immediately after it dropped.

Chad and Jared Moldenhauer, the game's creators, serve as executive producers for The Cuphead Show. Clay Morrow and Adam Paloian serve as directors, who have directed Mickey Mouse Shorts and SpongeBob SquarePants episodes in the past. In fact, eagle-eyed viewers may notice a potential reference to a classic SpongeBob moment in the trailer.
