Video Of Shoplifter Casually Robbing Walgreens Divides Twitter

A video of a shoplifter rather casually filling a garbage bag with goods from a San Francisco Walgreens then biking out of the store has gone viral on Twitter as users have debated whether the video is exemplary of the sorry state of law enforcement in America or overall not a big deal.
A video recording from a cellphone posted by reporter Lyanne Melendez on Twitter shows the man shoveling a shelf full of things from Walgreens while a security officer stands in the foreground. The officer takes an unsuccessful swipe at the bag as the shoplifter bikes past and out of the store.
This just happened at the

Melendez, a reporter for KGO-TV, said, "It's hard for me as a journalist to say 'I won't be involved, I can't get involved,' I have to be sort of neutral, but this is also my city. I live in this city and I see this constantly. Not only Walgreens, but cars, and my garage door has been broken into twice."
San Francisco officials also agree that something must be done to curb crime in the city, citing that several stores have allegedly closed due to shoplifting. "Seventeen Walgreens over the last five years, almost every Gap retail outlet is gone, CVS is under assault," said San Francisco Supervisor Ahsha Safai.
"It might even involve a more aggressive effort when it comes to surveillance cameras because you see the same individual hitting multiple locations, then you can begin to have a deeper conversation about bringing multiple charges, or aggregate charges against that individual and really start to break this up."
Some Twitter users were incensed at the casualness of the robbery, with many pointing out the apparent uselessness of the security guard in the video.
that video of the shoplifter in the san francisco walgreens is shocking even though there have been endless reports of it happening before. total breakdown in elementary law and order.

Dude stole a garbage bag worth of items at a San Francisco Walgreen’s and a security guard filmed it on his phone. Playing worse defense than the Warriors. pic.twitter.com/pqeJD4ofFZ

Some pointed out that Walgreens policy tells security and staff not to interfere in these situations.

Others were less perturbed by the video. The narrative spun by San Francisco officials that Walgreens stores were closing because of shoplifting didn't sit right with some Twitter users, who thought the company was doing just fine financially.
