Viral Video Of Elderly Woman Learning About Non Binary People Blasted As 'Elder Abuse' By 'Libs Of TikTok'
Controversial internet commentators including the likes of Libs of TikTok and Ian Miles Cheong are accusing a TikToker of committing "elder abuse" after a video of her teaching her 100-year-old grandmother about non-binary people went viral.
The video, which was posted by TikToker @salagw on Sunday, shows the user teaching her 100-year-old "bubbie" about non-binary people. In the video, which gained over 300,000 views in a day, the woman appears very receptive to the new information and even apologizes for using the wrong pronouns in regards to a non-binary person, saying, "You learn something new every day."

The video was received well on TikTok, however, that acclaim did not carry over to X (formerly Twitter). A day after it premiered on TikTok, X user @JoshLekach reposted it, adding, "Americans can't help but abuse the elderly. So sad."
The accusations of elder abuse only grew from there. Later that day, X user @libsoftiktok reposted it, adding, "Narcissist abuses her elderly grandmother and forces her to learn new pronouns. This is elder abuse," garnering over 1,300 likes in a day. Ian Miles Cheong quickly followed suit, reposting it with the added caption, "This is disgusting. Forcing your elderly grandparents to learn your made up pronouns is peak wokeness."
The accusations of elder abuse have inspired arguments on X, where viewers are now coming to the elderly woman and her granddaughter's defense. X user @AriDrennen, a news writer for Media Matters, took the opportunity to defend her while criticizing Libs of TikTok, writing, "Wildly on-the-nose that the Libs of TikTok lady thinks that abuse is when you have to learn a new thing," garnering over 7,200 likes in under a day.
Others are writing that it's "crazy" to call what's shown in the video elder abuse, with one user writing, "It's insulting to actual abuse victims and waters down our ability to call out and stop the horrors they experience." In addition to the 300,000-plus views on TikTok, Libs of TikTok's repost has gained over 600,000 views.
