Longtime YouTuber Boogie2988 recently announced that he was diagnosed with a rare, slow-moving form of blood cancer called polycythemia vera.

Boogie, who garnered a large fanbase on YouTube for his in-character videos as a raging gamer named "Francis" and has more recently become a staple of the commentary community, made the announcement on Twitter and in a YouTube video posted last week. In the tweet, he wrote, "It’s extremely slow moving and many people live with it for decades. No big deal."

Polycythemia vera causes the bone marrow to produce too many red blood cells and thickens the blood, slowing blood flow and causing adverse effects like blood clots. It notably comes with a 20-year life expectancy.

In the video, Boogie elaborated on the diagnosis further, saying the cancer was caused by a testosterone supplement he's been taking for the last "seven or eight" years. Boogie said he was aware that this was a possibility and that "if you're going to get cancer, this is the one to get" because of how slow-moving it is.

He also goes over how he can treat the cancer, including by losing weight, something Boogie has publically struggled with over the years. In the video, he said, "I don't know if I have what it takes to even, with the threat of death, overcome this eating disorder," but that he's going to try his hardest.

Since making the announcement, Boogie has received support from fans and come under fire from some trolls, who are doubting his cancer diagnosis.

A day after announcing the diagnosis, he posted to Twitter, "Me discussing this cancer has brought out some of the most disgusting comments I have ever seen my my time online. I cannot believe I ever once wanted to please these people. They are human garbage." He also shared a video thanking those who have supported him and further denouncing people who claim he's lying.

One Twitter user even suggested that Boogie got cancer from the COVID-19 vaccine, which he shot down in a quote-retweet, reminding the user that it was because of his injectable testosterone supplement.

Boogie recently called in to Keemstar's YouTube podcast The Keemstar Show, where Keemstar cleared the air about the rumors surrounding Boogie faking the diagnosis and cracked a few jokes with him about the ordeal. He also promised to fly Boogie down to his hometown of Buffalo, New York to come on the show and offered to help him lose weight.

At the time of writing, there have been no further updates on the status of Boogie's cancer diagnosis.
