I'll freely admit that the way we treated the Native Americans was one of the darkest times in our history, but that has little relevance to what's happening now, and the circumstances aren't quite the same.
I've heard some make the comparison that white Europeans were the original illegal immigrants, but there's one major problem with that analogy. Europeans didn't come to the United States, they literally founded and created the United States. Before their arrival there was no country, no unified political authority, just a smattering of tribes that couldn't wrap their heads around concepts like the ownership of land.
There's no excusing some of the things we did, but the truth is that the native tribes fought with, brutalized, and enslaved each other all the time. The idea that they were simple, peaceful people at one with nature until Whitey steamrolled over them isn't entirely true.
That doesn't excuse what happened to them, but pretending that it was a uniquely white or American evil isn't true. They likely would've eventually done the same thing to us if they had the better technology, and there probably would've been more scalping involved.
