I think Disney forgot a prime rule of cool: Actions speak louder than words. TR-8R actually did something about his enemy, whereas Phasma just kind of stood around. Granted, that was what Boba Fett did a lot in the original trilogy (EU and Holiday Special notwithstanding), but at least TR-8R did something memorable.
