But here's the thing – waaaaaaay back in the day, when the MLP fandom was just starting, the Dover Boys became a thing. "Confound those ponies! They drive me to drink!" was a fairly popular edit.

Which means that the current spike in popularity is actually the second time the Dover Boys became a meme.
