In the first three 3D Zelda games, Link has friends and an enjoyable life he can look back on. He can rely on them to give him the strength to keep fighting.

In Breath of the Wild – he's all alone, and with no memories of his past. If anything, the people he's held dear have all grown old and passed away while he was in stasis.

(The post title of "Link, Wake up…" may also imply that Link was dreaming the entire time, and the people he befriended never truly existed – thus adding to the loneliness and the inability to remember)
