There are actually rather nice comparisons for transformers though.

From some continuities, the set up is: a highly rigid caste based society (ie- "No metroplex, you are 100 feet tall, so you cannot be a kindergarten teachers") is going through social strife due to its restrictive nature under its autocratic rule. On one side, you have a young, idealistic librarian. On the other, you have a charismatic and powerful gladiator from the arena set up to handle the social frustration. They come together to seek political change within their system.

The librarian fights from within the system, and fulfills the requirements to have his voice heard, gaining a political position of power. He begins to enact the changes that the two wished for… but the gladiator suspects that he has been tricked. He thinks the librarian betrayed him to gain petty political favor. So the gladiator starts an uprising based on an ideology of strength that justifies his right to freedom. Thus begins the conflict that ends worlds.

It is a rather nice comparison for 'those fighting from within the system that might end up merely another cog due to promises of power', and those that 'want the system down entirely from the outside and lead to extremism/violent actions'.
