The story take place where Rose, the leader of the Crystal Gems was sucked by a portal which was created by Bill after offering her a deal for unknown reason, leaving her stranded in Gravity Falls. Without Rose the Crystal Gems lost the rebellion. The first human in this universe that Rose ever contacted with was Stanford Pines. Stanford in other hand was happily to help her out to get her back to her universe. As Rose and Ford worked together the portal was finally finished. However as Rose step through the portal, what was she just witnessed was horrifying, Earth in her own universe was nothing but a barren waist land. No Gems, no humans, no life. As she just witnessed what have Homeworld done to Earth, she felt in deep sorrow of grief. As she return back to Gravity Falls she tells why she didn't want to leave here. Stanford was shock to hear this. Within few years, their relationship grew stronger then ever than before.
