There is sad story behind those paintings. Louis Wain was an victorian era artist. His wife suffered from breast cancer. Shortly before her demise, she adopted a stray cat, which proved to be a loyal companion. This is how cats became Wain's main subject. Later in life, Wain suffered from deteriorating mental condition. He was eventually put in psychiatric ward, where he continued to paint for his own pleasure. Psychologists claim that psychodelic patterns and abstract motives in his late works are results of progressing shizophrenia. Nobody knows for sure, but at least Wain spent the rest of his life in comfort and peace (thanks in no small part to H.G. Wells, goddamit, I love this guy).
