James arguably cares more about Pokemon than Ash and his Pokemon love him back even more, even to the point of constantly hurting him from being unable to hold back their affection – and he still loves them. He also could have been one of the richest people in Pokemon but he gave that up to stay true to himself and stay where he felt he belongs. He also, as far as I remember (haven't kept up with anime in forever), has, like… never battled to capture his Pokemon – he always just asks.
