You guys, Daisy and I are on spring break this week. And admittedly, I've been pretty much checked out when it comes to keeping up with the news, because l've been trying to be productive around the house and take care of long overdue errands and whatnot. But whenever turn on the radio or TV or open up a news site, all l see is that horrific group of arrogant, egocentric teenagers from Parkland, andl am finding myself feeling a growing rage towards them. Like, I already had a significant amount of rage already, ever since that stupid CNN town hall, but it's exponentially worse now David Hogg is a self-important, smug, haughty, spoiled brat. And that's me being nice. Now, l've been hearing the rumors about him not actually being at the school during the shooting because there's audio of him saying he rode his bike to the school to get interviews, but l've also heard that he was, in fact, hiding in a closet at school during the shooting, and because he's an aspiring journalist, came back hours AFTER the shooting to capture interviews with witnesses. I'm frankly pretty tired of all of the weird conspiracy theories about him and the other students being "crisis actors" or older than they actually are, or not students at the school, etc. etc. These kids are insufferable enough as it is - there's no reason to make up tinfoil hat stories about them. If these are the new faces of liberalism, they're doing plenty to discredit themselves without conservatives having to make up stories about them. So can we stop that now, please? David Hogg is a pompous jackwad, but he went through the trauma just like every other Parkland student, and there is NO REASON to keep making up crap about him when he's plenty horrible enough in REALITY

New evidence suggests that this meme is not factually correct. Originally, I watched the video footage and verified whether it is authentic (it was) before posting. Yes, I fact-check news and even memes! The production is "39 Days", a CBS documentary that can be viewed under https://www.cbsnews.com/video/39-days-a-cbs-news-documentary/. The segment at 4:52 transcribes to: "On the day of the shooting, I got my camera and got on my bike and rode as fast as I could three miles from my house to the school to get as much video and to get as many interviews as I could because I knew that this could not be another mass shooting."

Without any context provided before or after in the CBS production, it created confusion because it plainly contradicted his previous claims about being in school at that time. However, other interviews clarify that Hogg was talking about returning to the school on the same day around 18:00 (Lockdown was lifted at 15:36), not about his actions during the shooting.

The irony is that hysterical "Progressives" scream it down as a deliberate deception coming from conspiracy nutjobs - oblivious to the fact that they are the ones who swear against all evidence that it absolutely has to be an intentional, insidious plot instead of a simple misunderstanding due to a bad CBS edit. The meme does not even claim a conspiracy to begin with, merely a media bias when it comes to choosing convenient "experts".

RedState has amended its story yesterday as well: https://www.redstate.com/sarah-rumpf/2018/03/26/new-video-casts-doubt-whether-david-hogg-school-day-shooting/, which is notable. While most people and major news outlets would have simply deleted the story and try covering it up, RedState actually leaves the entire first version up for transparency - thereby further disproving those who want to believe in a right-wing conspiracy.

So while it is regrettable that this mistake happened in the first place, it is actually a revealing incident that shows on which side the fact-checking works well even in the cases where a false story gains traction. Compare this approach to anything from Occupy Democrats to CNN, who not only fail to correct mistakes immediately and properly, but actively push known fake news for months and years. Then it becomes clear that the two sides have vastly different relationships to the truth...
