I'll never forget the day my best friend/crush, college-aged with this really serious fetishization of the idea of Communism that has him posting /r/LateStageCapitalism memes a lot, genuinely told me, after I said "I just think both sides are flawed and there's a compromise somewhere that people don't want to look for," which I quote "No, there's no fucking centrist bullshit. You're either with us, or against us, and if you don't want to be either, then stay the fuck out of our way."

He's still my best friend, but it's been a bit hard to talk to him about stuff like that the same way knowing that's apparently what he thinks of me now. The idea that someone could be so deep into an ideology like that to talk their best friend of eight years in that way still shakes me a bit.

Then they'll just call you a useful idiot for the other side.
