Imagine if you will that when this game came, a bunch of children and teenagers got triggered over it being too edgy, then going on to say Sonic is trying too hard to be cool. Doesn't make much sense What kids complain about a game being too edgy, let alone teenagers? What gamers at that age have nerd rage over that, when it's been quite clear that before and after Shadow, kids and teens played a lot of mature games, or at least had no problem with any being edgy Of course, it's a well known fact that it was grown ass people, usually over the age of 18, were the ones doing all the complaining, and Sonic being cool in general, which would only mean that they're in their 30s by this point.... complaining about how edgy a, in their words, a cartoon hedgehog is. Also in their words, Sonic is for kids, the justification used to defend b------- making Sonic childish(for Nintards), so how does that look like when adults are complaining about a kids game, that kids liked or at least had no problem with? I was in my early teens when this came out, never once ran into a real who bashed this game for being dark. Keep in mind that at the time this came out, most gamers in general were playing more mature games, given how Nintendo drove most of it's fanbase off with Windwaker for the gamecube. GTA was especially hot during this time period, so I would imagine anyone who played that and shied away from Shadow didn't do so in disgust, adding that Ratchet and Jak were also big titles at the time, which Shadow was much more like. But here's the thing, who at the time was complaining about mature games? Nintards and some lawyer(you know who I mean) But then that only goes to show, this game being released in 2005, anyone complaining about it being edgy were too young or an "edgy teen" to be that triggered over it. Even if they disliked it, 13 years of this? The only other explanation is that many people at this point today never played the game or were too young to be triggered over it, are coming into the fandom and being taking over by some Sonic hating cult, since this game, along with 06, is often used as justification for Sonic being childish now(excluding Forces despite only being slightly better written then recent games beforehand). That or people only lose their s--- over trivial things when Sonic in involved. How else can you explain grown ass 20 something year olds holding a grudge over a game for being dark, that came out 13 years ago? It's quite amazing once you try to look at this s--- from a logical standpoint.O

I was born in 2000 and didn't really know that Shadow had his own game until like 2010 or so.
Here's my opinion. One thing I want to get out of the way is that the story and themes aren't the biggest problems with the game, the overall structure of the game is by far the worse offender. The problem with Shadow's game isn't that it's "edgy" moreso that it's the wrong type of edge. The idea of seeing Shadow with a realistic firearm isn't offensive as much as it is ridiculous, it doesn't mesh well with his character design being that of a 3-4ft anthropomorphic hedgehog. Also it doesn't make sense. Why would Shadow, the so-called Ultimate Lifeform who can rival Sonic, need to use a gun? ESPECIALLY if he's fighting normal henchmen? This is why Shadow's game got mocked for being edgy, it feels less like the Sonic version of a dark themed story and more like a 13 year old's fanfiction. I hate Pontac and Graff as much as the next person, but you still need to keep a level head when writing more serious stories.
