He's the lead hero of Fatal Fury, which is one of many fighting game series by SNK that got combined into King of Fighters. He's extremely likable and quotable ("Ey, c'mon c'mon c'mon!" "ARE YOU OKAY?")

Terry and his brother Andy were American street rats whose adoptive father was murdered as part of a conspiracy by Geese Howard, head of one of the many corporations surrounding the King of Fighters tournaments. Terry eventually found and killed Geese, throwing him off the roof of his own company building.

After that, Terry adopted the abused and neglected son of Geese, Rock Howard, who would become a favorite of SNK's fanbase, and the main hero of Fatal Fury's followup, Garou: Mark of the Wolves.
