I'm all for the "Italy was trash in WW2" meme, but in all seriousness, the colonies in North Africa and the Italian Front slowed down the Americans and the British for years.
If the Allies had launched a French/German Campaign from the get go, they would have arrived to Berlin sooner.
It would undoubtedly been more bloody, but Germany handling both the Allies and the Soviets simultaneously on their own in '42 would have not been a good thing for them
Interesting fact: Up until Pearl Harbour, the Germans were very afraid that Japan would side with the US. Japan-German relations were very shaky after the non aggression pact with the soviets, as Japan thought that Germany had betrayed them (originally, the soviets were Japan's biggest concern).
