O ll 86% DI08:55 How well would Greta Thunberg be received in China? Geng Chang, know Chinese, enjoy being one. Answered Nov 27 In China, people made tons of soviet political jokes about her.. which are really amusing and hilarious. The existence of those jokes means Chinese think she's hypocritical and divorced from reality. In general, Chinese people admire ones who do a lot and say little, and despise those who did nothing and are always talking. And they really dislike hypocrites. Unlike all mighty Mr. Trump, the Chinese mainstream doesn't deny the global climate change. Chinese people values and acknowledges environmental protection work. But whom they admire are the forest keepers in the deep mountains, or tree planters in the desert. They don't like a clown who turns a serious problem into a farce. It's an insult to the efforts of countless environmental workers. Here l'll try to translate some Greta version soviet political jokes. Greta, a Chinese tree planter and a politician were on a carriage. Suddenly, a wheel got broken. The politician ran to the street and started to ask others for help. The tree planter got out of the carriage and started to fix the wheels. Greta pulled the two back into the carriage and said, "I think we should discuss how you should solve this problem first." Or, On a conference, the host said, “If you support zero-emission, please stand on the left. If you don't support it, please stand on the right." Most people moved to the right, rest of them moved to the left. But at last, someone stood in the middle. "What's your opinion?", the host asked. "I support zero-emission, but I need to make emissions for my speak.", the girl in the middle said. "Ms Greta, please come onstage!" said the thrilled host. Or, Greta went to America to attend UN Climate Summit. Someone asked a photographer to take a photo about "Greta in America". When he received the photo, he found the photo is about an old women sitting in the wood. Furiously, he asked the photographer, "who's this?" "A Chinese forest keeper." "Where's Greta?" "Greta is in America." I guess this is the image mentioned in the "Greta in America" joke. She was 84 years old in 2015, and she started to plant and protect trees from more than forty years ago. She's just one of hundreds of thousands ordinary environmental workers who did extraordinary work. This is the type of hero that Chinese people will truly admire. As for Greta, she (and whoever behind her) is a joke, a minor joke. 28.2k views · View Upvoters · View Sharers You and Viktor T. That's kind of the point. She can't do much. She doesn't have the capital to much herself, and when she talks, she brings nothing new to the table. If she is incapable of doing much, then why is so much attention given to her? Because the media decided to run the "innocent child upset about climate change" story purely for views and it spiraled out of control because "gosh darn it, she's so young and innocent and passionate!" She's not infront of the UN because she has good ideas, original ideas, power or anything else of value. She's in front of the UN because she's marketable to the media, and I don't think Greta herself realizes that. Which is why I kinda get why people are upset about personal attacks against her, by all likelyhood, none of this is her fault, but for pete's sake, she should not be in front of the UN as the face for climate change and shouldn't have risen past the local news and the head of a town youth group.

No one guy has come up as a figurehead of the entire movement, and stop with the "no one listened" bullshit. If no one listened, technologies wouldn't have been developed and bills wouldn't have been written. If no one listened, we wouldn't even be talking about this right now. If no one listened, Greta wouldn't even be a thing. Just because everyone didn't unanimously decide to utterly destroy our economy beyond repair to stop climate change does not mean no one listened, and just because you feel enough isn't being done doesn't mean we should kneecap the entire movement by appointing a literal child as the spokesperson.
