I'll be honest, I feel the issues plaguing modern architecture are the same plaguing other modern forms of art.
It's simply too polished, clean and friendly. It doesn't apprehend the audience and force them to confront the work, it doesn't force them to feel emotion or think deeply about it.
The building on the left tells me: "Happy happy joy joy, nothing's wrong. Look! pretty plants! Clean glass!" It shrugs in shyness behind the treeline.
While the building on the right looks down upon me with an aura of smugness about how it will most likely outlast me, my children, their children, their children's children. It peers over every tree and building that came before it, permeating everything around it with it's pride.
