Fun fact: the Australian wildfires and the locust plague in Africa are directly connected by the Indian Ocean dipole. The dipole makes it drier in Australia, causing the fires, and wetter in Africa, making it more suitable for the locusts. Global warming increased the frequency and intensity of positive dipoles.
