Something that always bothered me about accusations in general. They all happened "Years ago"

If something were to happen to me, I'd report it immediately, if anything I'd take a few days, at best a week to get over it mentally, but I'd never wait months, let alone years to report anything

Most victims mention that this happens because they were afraid to do so at the time, often in the context where the predator was a famous and/or influential person. Many of the victims of the Smash Bros. scandal share this in common, and honestly, I can see the point. Years later and the accused where, in fact, being defended until the very end before they just outright confessed to all of it, and the victims were pretty harassed up until that point (they showed screenshots to prove it). So, the fear was justified.

Add to this that many of the victims were literal minors when it happened, and honestly, I can easily understand where the fear of speaking about it comes from. It is you, a helpless kid, versus a predator with power and influence, their thousands of fans and a law system that needs undeniable evidence to even try and do something about it, not to mention that such a thing would involve your paretns and it is not free. Only recently have these people found courage to speak now that the internet provides an alternative way of getting closure, and, given that just in the Smash case alone, about 90% of the acussations turned out to be true and the predators confessed, I would say that it works.
