I like brutalist buildings quite a lot on an aesthetic level, I just wouldn't want to live in one.
The "ugliness" is part of the charm. They're cold and aggressive, doing whatever they like with their shapes and structure. They don't care what you think looks nice, you're just a tiny squishy human. They're absolutely perfect for industrial-y dystopian-y sci-fi.
Calling them bland, on the other hand, comes off as rather reductive considering the huge variety of structures that come up when you Google brutalist architecture.
Brutalism is fucking sweet. It's just a building. it makes no attempt to be sleek. it makes no attempt to be shiny. It is a building. It's here to do a job. It is made out of building stuff.
I may be slightly biased, since I grew up near DC, an area where the Metro stations are cathedrals of waffle-patterned concrete and the federal buildings are wide yet short hulks, practically screaming FUCK YOU I'M A GOVERNMENT BUILDING.
