PSA: SAY NO TO POSTMODERN/WOKE MATH "Ideas have consequences" - James Lindsay 2020 2025 Kareem Carre @kareem_carr Replying to @kareem_carr and @ConceptualJames Imagine a system where we can only measure things to 1 decimal place. So 2 could mean 1.5 to 2.4 ... 2.4 + 2.4 is 4.8 ... in our theoretical system, this would look like 2+2=5. Again pretty normal to have error in measurements in normal life. 8:54 PM · Jul 30, 2020 · Twitter for iPhone 7 Retweets and comments 14 Likes

If we're only able to measure things to a weak degree of specificity like this then we wouldn't be writing statements with explicit equalities then. We would say something like 2+2 = 4 + "error" where "error" is an unknown quantity anywhere from -1 to 1. In real mathematics or scientific work, you define things explicitly to make sure that what you are stating is unambiguous.
