I feel like the rampant gate-keeping and "downfall of gaming at the hands of mobile" mentality that was popular at the onset of the mobile gaming era is partially to blame for the downfall of mobile games. Gamers were so quick to call out how much worse Iphone / android games were than their console, handheld, and PC counterparts, despite serving different purposes on devices without dedicated controls. Core gamers, who are usually quick to call out anti consumer practices, rejected mobile gaming communities out of fear they would one day replace the full fat gaming experience. Because of that rejection, companies were able to get away with the warping of actual games into auto battlers that you need to constantly feed money into to keep going.
Without an audience who appreciates game-play and value, why keep including it at all?
