The general consensus in the community is that the volume 1 – 3 are considered the best (though It has also the time when it was a web show with almost no budget, so the animation are meh except for the fights, also you will see also how the story is impacted by this budget since it quite simple, even a bit cliche at the start).

The volume 4 – 5 are considered the worst due to change of theme and are considered to have a lot of flaws in the writing but I suggest you should try to watch these to see if you like it, and if you don't, drop the show.

As for the vol 6 – 8, it a 50 – 50, sometimes it's bad, and sometimes it's good.

I'm not motivated to write a long analysis of what positive or negative aspect there is to the show.

I'd say that the best thing to do is to watch it yourself and see either you like it or not.

RamdomGuy2013 summed it up well, I wouldn't say any spoilers but if I had to make a shitty analogy, a volume writing is kinda like a train on rail, everything is well at the start but then a shitty placed rail can mess up the whole train.

That what analogy I would use for volume 7 honestly, it start good then you will see by yourself that there is certain moment that are really questionnable (I'd like to think the writers have good ideas, they just don't know how to execute well which can lead to a mess easily. For example, in a hall, there is a really skilled fighter that get punched by a kid who take 5 seconds to run to her, turn out this is miscommunication between the writers and the animators. There is also one really dumb moment in volume 7 but I don't want to spoil you).

But like RandomGuy2013 said, I like the show because of the idea it's made by guys who hadn't any budget and turned into something bigger. A shitty analogy I would made is that the show is kinda like a table with bad foundation. Since the show had no budget at the start, the story is heavily impacted by it.

Imo, the writing isn't amazing but it also not something that deserve so much hate, especially when you see some other anime (cough Redo Of Healer cough).

If anything, I like RWBY because there are cool characters design holding guns or objects that transform into another gun. I just find it fun (that also apply to others shows I've watched tbh)
