People associated with the Mulan film (and thus representatives of Disney) still openly voiced support for the Chinese Communist Party when it came to the Hong Kong situation and the regional authorities they worked with, who also were responsible for human rights violations.

This is EXTREMELY debatable. While China's economy became much more capitalist following Deng Xiaoping's reforms, this ECONOMIC liberalisation was never followed with POLITICAL liberalisation; China's political structure remains a Communist Party-dominated autocracy, much like the Soviet Union and other such communist states. Essentially they wanted to have the growth and prosperity of a market economy but retain the absolute Party control of a communist state.
