I absolutely agree with the second half, nobody is willing to have discussions with people that disagree with them anymore. Validation is more important to most than compromise.

But the first part just seems like a pretty ironic thing to say that, "They are only telling you the things you want to hear.." While I'm sure a large reason he;s so strongly conservative is how often they virtue signal Christianity. I don't know the guy, and there may be more reason than that, but he's being way too vague on what super nuanced ways that the "democrats are the real bigots" and not the guy whose final act in office was to make it legal to discriminate against trans people at homeless shelters.
