There's been in recent years a movement of Asian identitarianism amongst the diaspora in Canada and USA that is somewhat strong online. They divided themselves and created many slangs. There are the "boba liberals", a.k.a. the Asians "soy boys" or that are completely assimilated in their country, or supposedly don't bash white people enough (yeah).
Then there's the "Woke AZN", which as far as I can tell, spend most of their day telling people online that Asians are emasculated, depicted as weak or nerdy by Hollywood, that Asian women like white men way too much, and yada yada yada.
To them, being seen as masculine, attractive, successful (and perhaps even landing a white woman) and all the rest is "breaking the stereotype".
TLDR; They see themselves as math nerds and LoL pro-players, so being the opposite of that is a win-win for the Asian community!
>just make your own superheroes bro
he tried, and it sucked badly.
Even in an era where things like "I am NOT Starfire" and "Gotham High" get published, Joshua couldn't get an actual Filipino superhero to catch anybody's interest. It's why many comic publications don't even bother making the martial artist character Asian anymore because they are afraid of stereotyping a whole race. It's why Snake Eyes and Iron Fist were white
But either way, you cannot win. Stereotypes are bad, they say, but at the same time they want to be portrayed as stereotypes if that means not getting a white guy to do it. What makes makes me sad is that some of these people idealize Bruce Lee: A man who was discriminated against by his fellow Asians because he was part white and even fought one over the debate of teaching martial arts to white people
