It's really easy to claim you would've been a hero going against the status quo, with the benefit of
a) historical hindsight, and
b) not actually having to put your money where your mouth is.

Humility is realising that even if you weren't taken in by the anti-Semitic propaganda of Nazi Germany, you'd probably have denied shelter to a Jew to avoid sticking your neck out. Heroes are rare.

The romance of resistance is quickly overshadowed by the efficiency of authoritarianism in the eyes of the intellectually craven.
