Most people who are angry grew up with the Miis and as such, feel an attachment to them. They're an iconic part of the Wii era for a lot of people.

It might not be that people love the Miis as much as they are turned off by these new designs. They feel generic, but also corporate and slightly uncanny, and are less customizable. They have all the faults that the miis have, with none of their benefits.
