In various places in Super Mario Galaxy 2, butterflies can be found. If Mario remains idle near a butterfly for long enough to enter his sleeping animation, the butterfly will land on him. The moment Mario wakes up, the butterfly will change its color to green. There are four colors of butterflies in the game. The first three will change their color to green in this scenario; the ones that are already green when they spawn will remain green. Note that this applies only to Super Mario Galaxy 2; the butterflies in Super Mario Galaxy will not change color.
