I've come to realize that this is more evident of the persistent issue in politics: that is the inability to be neutral. For the Left, critical theory and Gramscian ideas believe that you must explicitly bake your activism into all aspects of life so that there is no neutrality and to prevent false consciousness from perpetuating. Cultural Hegemony can only be countered by infiltrating society and using institutions to perpetuate your beliefs lest they perpetuate the status quo AKA the thing keeping people oppressed. (This is the origin of the talking point about being unable to be still on a moving train)

Naturally because of this, the right becomes overly paranoid because the explicit goal of critical theory and Gramsci's cultural prescriptions is to change society through using institutions and so they view are ever-vigilant of what could be perceived as "wokeness" or activism within entertainment.

What was Pikamee's crime? What did she do wrong? She simply wanted to play a game. Yet because of the far left idea that everything is political including the personal, the fact that the game was made based off an IP made by a persona non grata made that action a political statement that condemned her.
