I've said this before and I'll say it again. Escapism is ruining anime. The industry is pushing for more and more kirito-ish mary sues and making the rest of their respective casts glorified blowup dolls, and less for characters with any sense of fun, charm, sincerity, uniqueness, or investment. MANY of them could be scraped entirely and the plots would not be worse off. In fact, Galaxy Angels did just that and it was way better. If melons are you first and only priority then there's no need for a creepy stalker who adds zilch. Surrogates don't have to be obnoxious or walking planks of cardboard either.
