I liked Yona, though I suspect the Sidon/Link shippers hate her. I was also suspecting she'd turn out to be a spy or creation of Ganondorf because of her little horns, but was happy she was just a loving wife for our favorite shark man.

I think it's rather sad and frustrating to be honest. It speaks volumes that certain people, particularly yaoi and yuri shippers from what I have noticed, find things like friendship and camaraderie so alien and are so starved for love that when they see characters having affection for another character or being friendly to one another is automatically a sign of romance.

It's why we see Link/Sidon, Obi-Wan/Anakin, Finn/Poe, Ahsoka/Barris, Frodo/Sam, Kirk/Spock, Captain America/Bucky championed so fiercely by these shippers or why some creators/writers give in, like with Blake/Yang in RWBY and Tailgate/Cyclonus and Ratchet/Drift in IDW's original Transformers comic runs, clearly being done only to please these shippers.
