Botswana is one of the few African countries that have a well-developed economy and is politically stable putting it in sharp contrast with it's neighbours Zimbabwe, South Africa and Namibia. The fact that it flies under most peoples radars is a shame, because it shows just how great Africa could be if they just got their act together.

This is all largely down to their first post-independence leader, Seretse Khama, who took on foreign advisors who helped him create a liberal democracy from scratch, used government money to improve public infrastructure and cracked down hard on corruption from the very start.

He was elected to be president four times in a row and due to his hard work, Botswana went from the third poorest country in the world, to one of the most prosperous on the entire African continent within the span of twenty years.
