*Supper Mario Broth @MarioBrothBlog In the intro to Super Mario Galaxy, a Toad trapped in a crystal changes expressions from happy when Mario is near to sad when he isn't, creating the expression that he is still conscious inside the crystal and is rejoicing at Mario's presence and despairing at his absence. Mario is near the Toad Mario is further from the Toad The Toad is happy, as though relieved to see Mario The Toad is sad, as though concerned that he can't see Mario anymore The technical explanation for this is that the crystal and Toad within it change between a high-polygon and low-polygon version based on how close the camera, and thus Mario, is to them. It appears that the expression assigned to the high-polygon Toad is different than the low-polygon one, creating this effect. Ganon's fight in OoT was originally going to be like Megaleg in Mario Galaxy

Supper Mario Broth @MarioBrothBlog In a 2008 interview, Yoshiaki Koizumi revealed that the concept for the Megaleg boss battle in Super Mario Galaxy was originally envisioned for the final boss battle against Ganon in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. "We originally had this idea of climbing onto something really big and moving around on top of it for Link's final boss fight in Ocarina of Time, but we realized that it wouldn't work because you couldn't see Ganon if you were on top of him. So, we had to scrap the idea at that time, but we were really excited when the opportunity finally came around to reuse it in Galaxy. When we first started work on Galaxy we made a prototype version of the game with a very small team, sort of like a "proof of concept" for development, and Megaleg was actually the first boss that we designed for it. We had a very good feeling about it as soon as we got it into the game. It was the realization of an idea that I'd been wanting to work with for a long time: to climb over something big and finally destroy the core. And the whole way through you're able to use the differing effects of gravity to get there. I was very happy with how it came out."
