About

SCP-682, also known as Hard to Destroy Reptile, is an SCP Foundation object. In the SCP Foundation universe, SCP-682 is an extremely hostile, highly intelligent reptile-like creature able to regenerate its body at a very high rate. One of the most well-known SCP entities, SCP-682 is often featured in memes related to the SCP Foundation.

Origin

The original description of SCP-682 was first posted on April 6th, 2008, on the EditThis SCP Wiki by the prominent SCP community member DrGears[1], also known as Cog[2]. The original entry, first posted on the EditThis SCP Wiki[3][4] described SCP-682 as a rapidly-regenerating, incredibly strong reptile-like creature which "appears to have a hatred of all life". The SCP was also described as extremely intelligent and able to communicate with humans.

Object #682 is a large, vaguely reptile-like creature of unknown origin. It appears to be extremely intelligent, and was observed to engage in complex communication with #079 during it's limited time of capture. It's physical body grows and changes very quickly, observed to increase by one square foot of mass every hour that it is not physically damaged. #682 is also incredibly strong, and has escaped from SCP six times to date.

Originally a text-only entry, the SCP-682 was provided with an image by DrGears in the period between June 9th[5] and July 26th, 2008[6], when the SCP Wiki started transitioning to WikiDot[1]. The photograph used for the entry was first posted on EnglishRussia[7] website on August 28th, 2006, and showed remains of an unidentified animal found by the Russian military on the Sakhalin Island.

There's plenty of reason.

Some see him as the face of the old creepypasta wannabe phase of SCP, which is a far cry from the current SCP with its deep, dark lore. Others dislike him for being the unofficial face of SCP and consider him unworthy of the spotlight in comparison to many other better-written recent ones, and he, on the other hand, is seen as boring and shallow in comparison.

Overall, all the reasons truly originate from the fact that the site, the community, and its standards have changed a lot since those days.
