I like how Mulder and Scully from the X-files are together because it seems that separate they would fail. Mulder would figure out the Death Note because of his superstitious knowledge but would lose to Kira, and Scully would catch Kira because of classic detective work but never figure out how Kira killed his victims.

Frank Drebin would probably solve the case by complete accident. He'd write Light's name in the Death Note so he wouldn't lose it or something.
