Reminds me of a story, where a teacher awarded many extra-credit "tickets" to students who showed up to class early and then fewer to ones who showed up later. She then said that they could redistribute them if they want and she would only enforce decisions that are made.
The ones who had extra weren't voluntarily giving them away, but one charismatic young girl convinced the majority to vote for her to confiscate the tickets and redistribute them. Once "elected" she did just that, but kept the lion's share for herself and her friends.
Regardless of how you feel about socialism, taxes, welfare, or whatever else you feel is applicable, it's important that you are mindful that some people have figured out that being an advocate of "equality" can be an effective way of getting ahead in life.
