Blood is squirted into piston well, vampire regenerates, pushing piston up. Repeat. Holy water and blood are universally available, renewable and environmentally friendly substances. This makes the vampire engine an unmatched source of cheap, "green" power. And since vampires are cursed by God, they can theoretically be used forever. God's wrath is infinite. Although a vampire engine is too large to fit in moving vehicles, they're perfect medium-sized power plants for towns or factories. At last these annoying parasites come in useful! (Note that in engines using multiple vampires, their rates of collapse and regeneration must be closely matched to avoid piston knock.)
