About

I'm Sorry Coach refers to a series of video parodies of a stock illustration in which a child says "I'm sorry coach," to which a grotesque coach yells at him. In the parodies, the coach will often say or sing nonsensical things. The parodies began growing popular in July 2022.

Origin

On March 2nd, 2009, the user vectorbomb posted a the original image on iStock[1] and bigstock[2] (shown below).

The picture didn't begin seeing use in ironic meme videos until early 2021. On February 9th, 2021, YouTuber Content Producers posted a voiceover video of image where the coach says "Apple Bottom Jeans," [3] gaining over 69,316 views in a year (shown below).



Spread

The picture began seeing more consistent use in memes starting in July of 2022. On July 13th, 2022, YouTuber[4] Memetastic posted a where the coach says "WE'VE BEEN TRYING TO REACH YOU ABOUT YOUR CAR'S EXTENDED WARRANTY," gaining over 268,443 views in two weeks (shown below, left). On the same day, YouTuber Smiledude02 posted an example in which the coach's voice is replaced with a robotic voice heard in grocery stores, gaining over 34,000 views (shown below, right).
