In Cherry Lake in Paper Mario: Color Splash, a stack of 4 Shy Guys try to bully a fifth one to join them. Not wanting to be forced, he runs away. As he runs away, he becomes caught in a water wheel, with one of his feet being trapped in it. It drags him through the water, making him soggy. What's your problem, bub? You don't wanna stack up with us? crucify ALT Internally, this pose for the Soggy Guy is called "crucify". Looking at the way his foot is caught in the wheel, it does seem like there is nothing to actually get caught on and the sprite may have originally been drawn for something else. Fascinatingly, the reason for this is the same as for the famous Parallel Universes in Super Mario 64, whereby Mario encounters a parallel version of the cutscene very far away. In Super Paper Mario, there is a glitch that allows Mario to clip out of bounds everywhere by tossing a Gold Bar, using Slim's ability, catching the Gold Bar near a wall or edge, pressing 1+2, selecting another Pixl and finally jumping into the out of bounds area. Doing this in Chapter 3-2 in the room with the Blooper boss will cause Mario to go off screen to the left. If the player then uses Dashell to dash to the left for 4 hours straight while off-screen, Blooper will start appearing and the game will crash (with that classic Wii crash sound). The technical reason for this is fascinating: Mario's position is stored as a float variable (which can go to infinity) while the cutscene scripts truncate the floats in their calculations, wrapping around if the value is too high or too low. If this sounds familiar, it is because this is exactly the same issue that gives rise to parallel universes in Super Mario 64, whereby the game truncates a float to check for floors under Mario, causing the floor collision to seemingly wrap around and creating extra copies of the level far away. Walking to the left for 4 hours causes Mario to encounter a "parallel universe" version of the Blooper cutscene, causing an error and crashing the game.
