Anonymous member ⚫3h A Staying anonymous because I don't want people being directly rude towards my husband. How do I explain to my husband that you sorta have to coddle a baby in the 1st year of their lives because they have little to no cognitive function and don't understand anything going on? He keeps saying "I'm not raising no prissy prude, or little b**ch" when I confront him about how hes interacting with our 4 month old. My husband has autism and had a super messed up childhood. (SA, etc.) But on multiple occasions I've told him to stop trying to "build character" as he calls it until shes at least 1 or 2. Because the baby is more cognitive and actually able to do a lot more by then. His way of "building character" is to trigger her startle reflex constantly, mock her when shes crying sometimes, and keep saying "you're fine" when shes crying. I keep telling him a CPS worker would even tell him what hes doing is 100% not okay and he just won't listen. Hes has several people, even a licensed therapist tell him its not okay what hes doing. But everytime someone tries to intervene we get the "don't tell me how to parent my child" spheal. Like its not just his kid. Its mine too. I went through a lot while pregnant and even while in labor. But either way, someone help me explain to my husband from a scientific standpoint why what hes doing is not okay at all. And please no comments about leaving him, or threats please. Him and I just started with a new therapist recently and we're doing our separate individual therapy as well so we're both still a work in progress. Thanks.
