Yeah, I love SU and all, but the abruptness of most Homeworld redemptions coupled with facing no consequences for their crimes is one of my gripes with the show. You know they might be leaning into "love and friendship conquers all" too hard when My Little Pony: FiM does a better job at portraying irredeemable villains.

The irony is that SU has two outstanding redemption arcs with Peridot and Lars. They're gradual, organic and feel earned. The blueprint was right there, it would have been nice if more of the show's reformed antagonists had been given a similar treatment.
