… I think I get this one actually. As humans we tend to twist and distort legends over time, eventually they no longer resemble their original form at all. However, the people of those legends are rarely forgotten, they themselves stay a constant. An example I am thinking of is Beowulf, who actually existed, the giant stone pile at the end of the poem is real, but the rest of the tale is entirely exaggerated. So the real legend and forgotten, but the warrior remains.
