The other races have very obvious advantages, and they dont really make any effort to give the earth ponies anything to compensate. Earth ponies are defined more by what they lack, than what they have. The only "advantage" the writers have given them, is the fact that they grow all the food. Because being cotton picking slaves is f------ bomb as hell yo But really, I always looked at the earth ponies as kinda representing us. We have no wings, or magic. We don't have claws or furry hides, we cant swim very well and can't breath underwater. We f------ suck in a lot of ways. But we're smart. We'll build swords and guns, we'll build airplanes. We'll build boats and subs. We can do anything we f------ want because we're smart. We've dominated a whole planet full of big, hostile animals because we're smart. We've gone to the f------ moon. Not with magic, but balls and cleverness. I always liked the idea of the earth ponies being mechanically inclined, and thats what they bring to the table. They're the builders and inventors of the world. They may not have unicorn magic, but they know how best to utilize it to make massive flying machines and whatnot. I got this idea when Pinkie built her candy helicopter. Later they show some of applejacks relatives in a steam powered flying airship. But these appear to just be flukes The show treats them as being no smarter than any of the other races. They're the same. Except earth ponies can't fly, or do magic. All they can do is grow food to feed the others races. Because being a cotton picking slave is bomb as hell yo.
