Now that I think about it, this may actually be a real reference to clopping. When ponies applaud, they stamp on the ground with rapid succession using all hooves creating more of a thud sound. What trenderhoof did however, is knock both of his front hooves together and actually making the clopping sound. Yup definitely clopping reference.
