One important thing to note about the c-stick is that it allows you to do aerials without changing direction. This enables things like pivots. One example of this being useful is using pikachu’s back air while moving forward into an enemy. Also, I think you can charge with the c-stick if you hold a when you tilt it.
As for my personal opinion, I don’t see any problem with the c-stick. I see the c-stick as a convenience more than a handicap. I rarely charge smash attacks, because it gives the opponent so much reaction time that it isn’t very reliable unless they’re trapped. To me, frowning upon c-stick use is like frowning on customizing the controls. What’s wrong with making the controls better? The c-stick doesn’t make my reaction time any better, or improve my skills. I also learned how to play smash bros without knowing about the c-stick for a long time, so I’ve played a lot both ways.
